- Description
: - An extensive energy analysis of the Royal Botanical Gardens was undertaken to determine solutions to reducing the very high energy demand of the site and respond to tough energy targets for the future. With the majority of energy consumption being used to heat and cool the greenhouses a strategy was proposed to reduce the running costs as well as reduce the energy consumption. The study recommended measures such as a series of tri-generation CHP units to generate on site electricity as well as heating and cooing. The study also showed that the implementation of an Environmental Management System for a sustainable site in the future would allow the site managers to constantly evaluate their progress on the way to a low energy development and re-evaluate targets as and when previous benchmarks are achieved.
