: - RIBA South East Design Award winner 2017 and RIBA South East Sustainability Award winner 2017. Long-listed 2017 Stirling Prize 'House of the Year'.
Planning consent for new-build on green belt land is only granted for rural homes that are 'truly outstanding and innovative.'
Caring Wood engages in the dialogue of critical regionalism: progressive design practice which is also infused with a spirit of local identity. This is a sustainable house for life, planned inclusively around an entire family and designed to evolve with them.
Inspired by traditional Kentish oast-houses, the house has ground-source heat pumps, underfloor heating and cooling, photovoltaics and solar thermal panels.
The house is one of very few houses in Britain to have ever achieved Code for Sustainable Homes Level 6 - a "zero carbon" standard.
